I have a Labrador who sits on the front garden and waits for my girls to come home from school. Also, when they go out to play, he sits and watches them. It's a bit of a joke that we always know what house the kids are in, becuase the dog will be lying patiently on the front garden.
we've never encouraged it, and the best that the girls give him is the odd wee pat in passing.
