How not to get someone to advertise in your magazine.....
Just thought I would share this as I found it really funny!
Today I received this e-mail (with no subject)
hello i was just after your contact address and telephone number of the person who deals with your marketting as we are launching a new magazine into tescos this year and will be looking to send you a media pack out some time in the near future. The magazine is a food magazine. We feel that your business would benefit from appearing in the magazine, maybe in the form of some editorial, the features for the magazine aren't set in stone yet, but we are just trying to get contact details from all the relevant people.
Thanks for your time it would be much appreciated if you could send me those details.
Kind regards J
So I replied:
Thank you but we are not interested. To help you I will tell you why:
Your e-mail is very unprofessional as it is full of grammatical and spelling mistakes and does not give a good impression. There is no subject in the e-mail and there are no contact details either.
Good luck with your venture.
He then replied:
I am actually quite shocked by the assumptions made in the email i have just received, i will tell you why. I was just sending an informal email like the ones i have sent to thousands of companies, some of which are global companies renowned around the world and have never had a reply like the one i just receieved. There was no subject in the email because i was only enquiring for some details. With the matter of leaving contact details i was asking for contact details myself so i could talk with someone at your company. I believe that talking to someone is the best way of finding out how proffessional they are and by listening to how well they know their trade is the best way of assuming a persons credibility/proffessionalism. The company i work for have been producing successful magazines for 24 years and have 37 publications in circulation some of which are market leaders in both trade and consumer circles. If you have got that impression i am sorry but if i could have spoken with someone at your company things would have been different. this is because our new publication we believe targets a similar target market to which you aim your products. A lot of time and money has been spent on this venture and for someone to write us off as unproffessional, due to spelling/grammatical mistakes in an informal enquiry email i feel is a little harsh to say the least, but thanks for the constructive criticism i will take this into account.
Kind Regards
J
Of course they are not unproffessional (sic)
