if it is totally unique, most products (not books, DVD's an a few other things) will need an EAN13.
If you are going to put more than 10-20 products online in the next 12-18 months, I would say register your self with GS1, which will get you a series of at least 1000 numbers. You will need to pay a joining fee and annual subscription, so, for a few codes, it isnt worth it.
Spotting a gap, I do sell EAN13's on Amazon for £20, however, for a fellow A1BF I can do a deal. PM me, if interested.
