The thing is when I looked at the site I could just see it was suss, I wouldn't have punched in the number of my plastic in a million years but folk obviously did.

I think as things progress online the need to look credible and build trust will increase. Just my opinion though

Trust is built in many ways....like real phone numbers, names and addresses. Testimonials that can be verified. Trust logos and so on.

And as for "proper websites" ....take a look at Dan Kennedys experiments with clunky copy - which outsold pristine copy. Some clunkiness makes you seem human.
