Default Quickbooks 2008 premier edition - regionalised?

    Hi,

We've got Quickbooks up and running for a registered charity that we're running and are going to depend on it for all our book keeping.

I've got a whole list of questions to ask about it but thought I'd ask them one by one and keep fiddling with the software to see if I can work out some of the others by trial and error.

    1. Is there a way to get the software to run as a uk piece of software? Everything always asks for Zip codes and it's all so Americanised. I wondered if there was a way to get to be more UK based?
    2. When I've entered our bank account number as an 8 digit number but I've tired entering our 6 digit sort code, which they call a routing number, but it won't let me as it want 9 numbers! Stupid american software. I know this isn't vital inforamtion but I'd like to supply the deatils so the reports and statements print out correctly.

    Thanks for your help/advice.

    Cheers

yes there are two separate versions - the US one is actually about 2 editions ahead of the UK one, and considerable cheaper too.

Probably your best bet is to get your money back and buy the UK version

    Ahhh!

Yes that would explain a lot!

Could you point me towards the UK version.... is it on Amazon UK?

You said one version is cheaper than the other? Is that the UK version of the US version? All we need is a version that will allow us to process our charaties accounts. We're probably going to process the gift aid forms manually and use the CD-Rom sent from the Inland Rev to do the payroll for the two members of staff we employ. Is this CD good? Does it do the job?

    Cheers guys!

It's on Amazon which is normally the cheapest place to buy from - you may well not need to buy the Premier edition which is quite expensive and the main difference from Pro for a service business is reporting which in most cases wont be very useful. Simple Start might even be enough.

IR CD-rom is really not very good. Try MoneySoft's payroll manager. Its only £50 and will save you hours of bother - and is a lot easier to use than the payroll in Quickbooks. We actually use it to run our client payrolls, but its perfectly decent for 'amateur' use too!

    Hope that helps

    Ah brilliant....

    Thanks for that James!

Moneysoft will keep up to date with the tax codes, and ever changing laws. Will it also print off the pay slips, P45's and P60's on our standard desktop laser printers?

We pay one of our employees a salary which we pay to him every month. Will it let us know how much money we send off to the tax office on his behalf and what the contribution for NI and Tax are?

    Thanks again

12pay, have had no problems at all, does the job brilliantly.

As for quickbooks...that's a different story. You will find loads of Americanisms even on the UK versions of the software. That's just the way it is!!

Chris, yes it will do all that, and allow on-line filing of your year end returns - its fully functioning software - but if you have limited payroll knowledge you might be better paying someone to run your payrolls. Shouldn't cost more than about £15 a month for a bureau service for a single employee.

    Thanks guys.

So 12pay is totally free? Does it do the job of the moneysoft software? Or is that software better?

We've got an ex accountant in our charity who knows what he's atalking about when it comes to figures and tax etc but he's over 70 yrs old so is not up with the computer sftware and how it all all works. The plan was for me to get to grips with the software and then get together with the retired accountant to do the rest.

This version of quickbooks is the one we need then... Quickbooks Pro 2008 found on Amazon for £228.70. I would post the link but it wont let me as I have under 15 posts to my name! Doh!

I think the ability of Quickbooks pro over simple start is that it can use the chart of accounts and categorise all the spending and income a lot better than the £45 simple start version.

    Thanks

12pay can be totally free, or you can pay about £90 for two years.

As for it capabilities it is up there with any other salary software that I have used. On price alone it defeats Sage Payroll. Plus when you phone 12pay up you get a human not some computer flunkie apologising for the delay!!!
