Can anyone point me in he direction of some good bookkeeping resources, either online or a book would be great that explains the bookkeeping process and is aimed at beginners?

Amazon have a great list of books. I would start there or just pop to your local library or bookshop...

As for online there are some resouces at business link for starting up business and what is or not required.

Our website has lots of information about bookkeeping, we have a section called bookkeeping basics which includes some of the different parts of bookkeeping. This may be a good place to start. There are also lots of other good sites available on the internet.

The book I shamelessly trail on here (as linked in my signature) has a big section on keeping basic records for people who have never done it before, aimed at the small business owner trying to do their own books.

It also covers lots of other things to think about with a small business such as VAT, self assessment and cash-flow.
