    Default Self assessment advice

I am completing my online self assessment and have almost got to the end. It's only a small business which has earned around £1000 a year but I am about to go full time and hopefuly earn more per year. I work from home and don't really have any expenses apart from heating bills for heating the home. As I have never claimed for this in the last 5 years because I have never really thought about it, would it be wrong to start claiming now ? I have been informed (during nearly the end of the online form) that I will owe around £4 tax. Surely if I claim expenses it should offset it or would it not be worth it ?

The other thing is, I can't remember if I claimed for heating last year or not as there is now ay of looking at last years form.

You could claim a proportion of your heating bill - based on the amount of time you spend working at home, and the amount of space you use in your home. You could go back and claim it in previous years, but you may find it too much hassle. There is nothting to stop you from claiming it now.
