Surprisingly enough, folk are often not thinking about your business when starting or running their own, and sometimes not doing something is often due to oversight, forgetfulness when consumed with work, etc. However, there's bound to come a time when someone tries it on so always best to have procedures in place. It's better to give a bonus for prompt payment, ie a free banner ad design or something small, than a favour to waive receiving payment prior to upload. The favour isn't recognised because they cant see, feel or touch it.

I don't want to put too much of a dampener on this but you can't relax until the money is in your account.
"The cheque is in the post" is one of the oldes lies there is (along with "Of course I love you" and "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you").
If you haven't received anything in a few days I should phone them again (nicely) and ask exactly when they posted it etc.

Well I spoke to them yesterday and they said "it's on the way" so I am hopefully thinking it will arrive tomorrow, if not I may indeed call on your kind offer!
I'm glad you're getting paid Joanne.
Have you considered in the future of taking half payment upfront and half upon completion? This will reduce you risk.
Glad to hear you've got things sorted. I had a similar experience myself too. I'd designed the whole website, registered the domain, setup hosting and was just about to launch, sent the final invoice and my client told me their other business had gone bust and they won't be able to pay for 3 months.
Stupidly, I only took a very small deposit for quite a large site and I am very worried about leaving it this long. As you mentioned, we need to pay rent/mortgages etc... so it can be very worrying when things like this happen.
I'm now thinking of increasing the amount I ask for a deposit but I'm reluctant to do this as I've had no problems for the last 4 years. Fingers crossed it will get sorted!
