Cashflow is king!
Without the cash, you haven't made a sale, you've simply expended time and possibly materials without a return. You can't afford to work with people if they can't afford to pay you. And all of this means that I have to look at the numbers (which I detest!) very regularly. It's boring but true!![]()

Never, ever become complacent. Look at your finances, regularly look at your competition, always think ahead, review your website, listings, adverts, look at new business avenues.
Start sitting on your bum and doing nothing could lead to a big nose dive.
1. It is much harder than you think.
2. The rewards for perseverance are bigger than I dared hope.
3. Know everyday exactly where your business is. Never, ever hide from reality.

Running your own business gives you the freedom to be your own boss and work from home. It also allows you to choose your work hours and practices.
Starting a small business and making it a success requires hard work, focus and commitment. It is best to start out small to test the water. That way, you can get a taste for being your own boss and test whether your business idea looks like it will be a success.
I'm not convinced by this advice. I think if I'd committed more to my business sooner instead of 'testing the water' I'd have been successful quicker. I agree with this....
"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now."
