Trading Names vs Registered Names - Answering calls
Many businesses now have a holding company and a number of brands or smaller companies contained within them.
eg Inzvestor Holdings Limited with sub brands/companies of Inzvestor Business Consultancy, 5M Coffee
How do you want to be known as?
When you pick up the phone you should answer stating your company name then your own name.
We have separate numbers pointing to separate phones, but can divert them to the same number as and when required. The phones (when diverted to the same number) are answered Inzvestor at present but we are reviewing this.
As we are separating the brands in the near future we are looking to split the phones and answering completely and will be adopting a policy of answering phones in the company name only.
Catchy Names with slogans that enhance your brand:
In some cases you will be building as brand identity and have a catchy name and slogan (see this thread) and therefore wish to capitalise on this.
What is your policy on answering?
Do you stick to the Company Name only and let your marketing take care of itself?
or
Do you answer 'Company Name, Brand Name or Slogan, Your Name'?
or
Do you answer 'Brand Name or Slogan, Your Name' only?
There is no right or wrong answer, just awareness of the impact of answering in each manner.
When talking on outside help in the form of new hires, Virtual PA's or marketing consultancies you will need to give clear guidelines as to what effect you wish to achieve. Remember that your brand values are at stake by the way you answer your phone.
