Hi am new to this forum but i would like to bounce this idea i have for joining a franchise off a few people and would like to get a feel for if there would be a need for it.
Basically the idea for the business is simple "to install loft ladders, board out the loft and install a light for the price of £247 plus vat " which is not an extortionate price and is something i could certainly do with myself and people i have spoken to have said is either invaluable (those who have had them done) or is something people seem keen on
I know quite a few people who have had this done. Infact a close friend of mine had hers done a couple of weeks ago and she paid £578 which included the ladder, boarding and a light and fitting. So if you can do it for £247 +VAT then you could be onto something there jjj123

Surely it depends on the floor space needed to be boarded? I would very happily pay that if I hadn't done it myself already (god knows what it cost me) you've also got garage roof spaces that can be boarded with an access ladder.
Hi thanks for the replies, your comments seem to mirror my own in the fact that this idea seems to be a winner if it turns out to be as it says.
On Tuesday i am off to see more of the business plan and the business set up itself but i have done some research myself and everything seems to be as stated so far.
The area size covered by the boarding is 50sqm and anything extra incurs an extra charge, but the price is so low because of the deals they have with suppliers.
Primarily i will be starting the business up in the Birmingham area but with a view of employing more people and spreading out even further but this largely depends on the areas available within the franchise, but if everything goes well then i should be up and running my own business within weeks - watch this space
I really like the sound of your idea. I've just moved in to a new place with a large loft but no ladder, boards, light etc... My girlfriend and I were actually wondering how much something like that would cost and £247 + VAT seems very reasonable to me! Good luck with it, you could be on to a winner!
You'll need a qualified electrician to fit the light and he'll need to issue a certificate. Have you factored that in?

maybe include some add ons to boost the profits.......
eg.....most people have their stuff in lofts stored in shabby carboard boxes that fall apart when they are picked up !! so to offer to supply some large plastic trunks (boxes) with lids would be a good idea i think.
when the lofts finished people will want to organise the space......
good luck with the venture............
