Default What a difference a new website makes

I used to have a free hosting website when I started my business a year and a half ago.
It never really fulfilled the function I wanted - to be an online shop.
But at the end of February 09 I changed my website to a 'proper' website, with my own domain name etc.
Straight away i saw the difference, I had loads more visits, and am now getting a fairly steady stream of sales too
I wish I'd moved from the free website long ago, but at the time was nervous of taking the plunge and the expense.
can't post a link to let you see, haven't got enough posts

Anyone else found a similar experience to this?

    Hi

Free hosting for a business website is a no-no as the host URL will be part of your website address, i.e. yoursite.hostname.com - this will always look naff and will always put people off. I would not buy from a free website, as I may think 1) this is not professional and 2) this might be a scam. The trustworthiness between you and your customers is cut dead by things like this in my opinion.

Glad you decided to get a domain name and decent hosting. It will make a difference

    many thanks,
I absolutely agree. I think the free site enabled me to have a go at making a website without the initial start up costs. All in all though I think it was a long term false economy - almost a year wasted in terms of selling opportunity

    Spot on.

You can evaluate a business on youw own domain just as cost effectively.

The important thing now is to keep on top of it and keep it updated.

I think you have done a brilliant job with the site, actually was admiring it yesterday and kicking myself for not placing an order in time for one of your items. Its looks really good, well done.
