Post What's your plan for building the basket?

If you are a merchant or sell a service, you are probably suffering from reduced customer traffic. Focus on building each sale by always suggesting associative products that would compliment the customer experience. Providing an exceptional customer experience is what will ensure loyalty, return visits and larger transactions.

movd to the shopping cart forum.

why are they probably suffering reduced customer traffic? do you mean becasue of the recession?

anyway yes, peole should try and do upsell and cross sell (as its often more referred to). There's a thread somewhere here that links to a blog about exactly how to improve the customer shopping experience. Upsell and cross sell is of more benefit to the seller really, but can be useful to the buyer too, if the right products happen to be displayed for them.

To make the most of upselling, choose a website provider with a cart that allows you lots of selling options. You might have a cycle website and also sell cycle helmets, cycle lamps etc. If you are able to offer the addons at a combined special offer price, all on the same page and only clicking one button, it is easier to sell that extra product.

Whats worked for me is offering a free gift (has to be worthwhile not just a keyring) for orders over a particular value or even just free delivery over a particular value.
Its helped increase customer spending for me, may not work so well in other markets or b2b environments

Thats because the OP had posted in a different forum to start, then it was moved to this correct forum, but the OP's post remains unchanged

    if you get my drift
