OK ~ Credit cards here we go!!

    Hi Guys

As most of you will know from my previous posts i was looking at a credit and debit card merchant account.

I got stung by Nochex, and what i really wanted was to be able to accept credit card orders online from my store and over the phone.

I may get 1 or 2 credit card orders a week, nothing special, so you can see why i wanted it to be a cost effective for me as possible.

Now with sales averageing £500 to £1500 a time i didn't want customers to get frightened off by me telling them they need to do it via paypal.

Not everyone has a paypal account and most businesses want yo pay over the phone with their business credit card. Its a little bit of a kick in the teeth when you tell them i can't take your card details, so please use paypal.

I've lost about 3 or 4 customers because of this, so it was important for me to sort this asap.

I've been toying with the idea to join the FSB and then going with streamline, been also looking at Worldpay, now owned by RBS. and paypoint.

The problem with these is they all want money up font for this or the other, the Paypoint Fast track was the dearest wanting £360 up front, That was the charges for 6 months

I just wanted a company that would do this for me without ripping me off in the process and i think i've found, the one which can work with me in my business, as opposed to me working with them.

    https://www.multicards.com/en/services/index.html

I've signed up with them, I can use my OS Commerce site, with their payment page and i can use the virtual terminal from my members area

The best i've saved til last, Now i know its a bit steep on the percentage but they charge 4.95% of the total order and 27p per transaction (0.45 USD)

They charge a yearly fee of $49 (£29.73)

To be honest to me, with only a couple of credit card sales a week, this is a bargain, I'd quite happily pay a bit more to secure a sale, and once you get the call and the person says "heres my Card details" you've cracked it

    So end Result

    FOR
    1. Quick, Easy to set up most businesses accepted.
    2. Secure online payment page from your store (most E commerce stores accepted)
    3. Low Yearly Fee (£29.73) No Monthly fee's or rentals
    4. Real-time credit card processing with instant verification
    5. Accept and get paid in USD, EURO or GBP
    6. SSL secured static order pages (1 FREE order page per account)
    7. Compatible with commercial shopping carts
    Against
    1. 4.95% charged on total sale.
    2. A security deposit of 10% of every transaction is held in escrow for 6 months and then refunded to you.
I guess i can live with that, to date i've not found any company that can do it quicker and for a resonable price

Your views and comments as always

Sounds good, will add it to my recommendations for my customers You can actually pay via paypal with a credit card though, regardless of whether you have an account or not. But I see what you mean about your customers wanting to pay over the phone.

If you do 1.5 transactions per week at an average value of £1000 your annual turnover is £78,000.

At 4.95% your fees are £3,861. (plus the pa fee)

If you went with a normal provider you would be paying about 2.5% which is £1,950

You're paying quite a lot for no upfront payment.

With a normal provider you fail to include the other charges, both to the merchant and to the bank, all in all its about the same if you include all the other add ons, plus its near enough instant approval without being held over a barrrel by the banks.

This is also better for start up businesses who have no trading record or accounts, and whose level of turnover is less than is required, and who in the eyes of the banks pose a higher risk because of this.

I'm not saying its better long term, but for the initial start up its the best i've found so far

Thats the problem i'm having, I'm sending customers who phone to paypal and they fail to complete the order, same as the orders which complete via the store, goes to the paypal checkout page and they don't complete.

Not everyone wants to use paypal, as i guess they've had a bad rep in the past.

Paypal has a place in the market but it is an order value driven place IMHO.

    Thanks Darren,

    Have PM'd you mate

Today i've geared up my OS commerce site to use Multicards, just need to email some more info over to the Multicard support team and they'll switch me on

Its going to be such a relief to be able to take "Full" orders over the phone, without have to ask people to complete via paypal or one of the other companies.
