    Default Payments over the phone

Hi all, i'm a new business with am ecommerce site but i am finding that my business customers have to pay over the phone!!!

Does anybody know what the best solutions are for a new start up? I dont have a merchant account with a big bank. My payment solution over the site is Nochex but they dont do over the phone.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

why do your business customers have to pay over the phone and not via the checkout?

It's their policy not to transact over the net. They can only pay over the phone for catering. Its unfortunate really but i have to work around it.

I'm limiting my customers by not having this facility at the moment so i need to get it sorted.

I looked at Protx but you need a merchant account at the big banks. I looked at it before but my business is to new to qualify.

Ive asked for a call back but reading it, it seems they only deal with more established businesses.

Not easy getting everything in place is it

Do you use paypal? Subscribing to their Website Payments Pro will get you a virtual terminal, which will allow phone transactions. It is not the best value, however, until you increase turnover, to cover the cost of a merchant account, it solves an issue.

For merchant accounts, join the FSB and you will get a great Streamline/Worldpay offer (Worldpay might be the easiest to integrate into your site, as most carts have a module for it as standard), but I believe someone like Iridium may offer a better value proposition, however, will be more difficult to integrate.

You can also try paypal as well, they have payments over phone service in one of their seller packages. It includes phone and internet payments pricessing.

If you are likely to come in face-to-face contact with your customers (and their cards), you might want to consider FSB/Streamline terminals. Otherwise, the Paypal Pro Virtual Terminal should work fine for you.
