I personally think that it is not only happening because of co2 and CFCs, if you look back at the history of the earth you will notice that there are trends and times when the earth warms up and cools down, such as the ice age. However as these gases are being released into the atmosphere it is making the situation worse.
As i see the earth carries out homeostasis and makes when the earth heats up things happen to make it cool back down, and with a normall level(without us on the planet) co2 it is in dynamic equilibribum because it is created and destroyed at the same rate.
Therefore i think that co2 is contributing to global warming but if we do little bits to cut down on co2 and CFCs, then we will be just fine.
Views please?
I think something is happening. Mainly as the weather has gone crazy.
It makes you think about what you are doing to the environment. But is it too late to change or has the damage been done?
(The curse of the A1 business forum strikes again, I'm supposed to be working!!!)

The majority of the damage has all ready been done i think, but if we try to drastically cut our own emmisions and everybody does then i think the planet will put itself right again
A huge amount of Co2 is released into the atmosphere naturally (just look at volcano's) but our addition to that process, together with chopping down the very thing that balances everything out is adding significantly to the natural cooling and heating of the earth.
Usually it takes thousands of years to move from one state to the next but man is now raping the world and spewing out gases into the atmosphere at such a rate that nature is totally off balance. The deforestation of rain forests is killing the very thing that nature provides to balance out the natural emissions of Co2.
What we are doing is speeding up that natural cooling/heating process to an unsustainable level.
Shame on us!!

Couldn't agree more and drastic things need to be done now before its too late
Im with you on this one Dan...I think it is just a natural process that the Earth goes through.
Have we, because we are more scientifically advanced, seen that the Earth is warming and then tried to find out why and come up with the Global Warming solution rather than just say...nope this is what the Earth does, deal with it.
I agree that we (humans) could do more for our environment but I have to admit im getting bored of every organisation, from the big global's to the corner shop jumping on the GW band wagon.
The problem Dan is how many people do you know that would give up part of their modern lifestyle to deal with global warming?
It needs a hell of a lot more than recycling tins and changing to low output bulbs. The fatcat corporations have to change but they never will, they will never give up their profits and just look at the US lobbyists, they drive government policy on this issue.
Gald I won't be around to see what we as humans finally manage to do to ourselves and the planet!!

The world changes over time, England used to be uninhabitable because it was so cold and frozen over, now we complain when it snows. The sea is a killer when it comes to global warming and there is enough of that
At the same time we are not helping in keeping the measure right, rain forests need to be protected not just for the trees but to ensure the wildlife that has just as much right to live here as we do continues to exist.
Polar bears now, what next? I honestly think we will get to a situation where the world will reinvent itself without humans. we will become extinct and the trees will grow again
I agree that climate change is a natural cyclical phenomenon - after all we had out last Ice Age some 10,000 years ago, and the Romans had vineyards in the UK 1000 years ago.
That said, I'm convinced that modern man is exacerbating these natural rhythms through our vast output of CO2 emissions.
To me though, the bigger problem is the rate we are using up our natural resources and the problem of landfill and toxic waste.
Surely this is a terrible legacy to be leaving for future generations.
Sure, I get fed up with politicians and big business jumping on the bandwagon - green-washing us or using the issue as an excuse to raise taxes.

agreed I have a friend who is a main mercedes dealer and he estimates that 80% of his cars are sold on the basis of peoples lack of self esteem rather than there need for a funcional motor vehicle.
Co 2 emmisions in confined spaces are a major problem .I believe there is an Area in London Streatham that has the highest levels in Europe.
I am not so sure of the overall Co 2 emissions when spread out across the surface of the planet but as I say the problem is they are confined to small areas where only Petrol tree's will grow.
