A1 Awards Ceremony?
While I know we are quite young as a forum, could I suggest an annual award ceremony?
Where we can vote on things like: Best Newcomer Best business advise Most creative Marketeer Sexiest Admin / Mod Funniest post Best SEO advise etc etc. Just a thought....

Don't like awards ( except cash of course )
Don't like the concept of anyone being best at anything. and why ain't you got a 10k reward for the oldest member.?  Alvin

I dont agree with forum awards either - it can make those not nominated feel left out or undervalued.

I quite like the idea.
There could be enough light-hearted categories to stop it becoming too serious or competitive. Certain posts should always be remembered!

Oddly, it feels slightly biased to post in support of John's idea as most of you now know we're together in real life. However, John and I generally say it as we each see it and aren't afraid to disagree with each other either.
I think awards ceremonies on forums can be fun and I personally hate the 'PC' world in which we now seem to live where we have such idiocy as children not being allowed to play competitive sports at school, in case the 'loser' finds it too difficult to cope with. As someone else posted, certain things *should* be remembered. As a community grows 'collective memories' do form part of what makes it cohesive. But regardless of the sociology, who could find offense at an awards ceremony in which, hell yes, let's have a category for 'Funniest old fart', 'Oldest old fart', 'Funniest post' etc etc. I think it would be a sad world indeed where no-one could be 'best' at anything. Striving to be the 'best' is what has driven science, discovery etc. As long as people are valued for 'trying' to be the best then I see nothing wrong in rewarding the 'best'. But as I would see it the suggested awards ceremony would be more about fun and a little silliness.

we could have categories like: Favourite SEO thread........ Funniest reply (as stated i think) Most useful marketing thread....... Best introduction post.......... Longest thread.........(Simon you won that one hands down with word ass.)  Member who most looks like someone famous..... Most informative profile.......... One person you would choose to have dinner with..... Most memorable thread..... Best cause thread......... then it wouldnt be voting on personal things like BEST SEOer BEST MOD FAVOURITE MEMBER BEST POST which some ppl may find awkward to choose...... but there has got to be an award for favourite avatar......pllleeeeeeeeeeese...
