Apparently we're to get one (subway that is) in Girvan
And we don't even have a sandwich shop. (Everyone's too busy eating fish & chips)
And they're not even building it on the road that gets all the through traffic for the Ireland ferry!, and it's about 1 1/2 miles away from the school.
I would be a little bit careful with Subway because I read and heard so many things about it. It looks like a great opportunity for buying a franchise but it doesn't always work. Subway filed for bankruptcy in Austria for example and had some problems in Germany as well. Just be sure to take care if you decide to become a Subway franchisee.
Its a great opportunity for someone to lose a substantial amount of money very quickly.
Hawick for example, i and all the people of hawick laugh at subway and pity their franchisee as it will be the quickest they will lose well over 100k.
the shop they are apparently taking on still has the "for let" board in the window
however, i phoned the estate agent who is renting the premises and they did say its under offer, will be under offer again in 6 months...... lmao. ( 12.5% management fee, lmao again.....oh heck my ribs hurt now )
[quote=saracen;42705]absolutely once it gets started down here.

From what i have heard the franchisee may not be opening in Hawick. Apparently potential subway franchisees are finding it tough getting any sort of finance from banks, mainly because of the credit crunch - which is a pain in backside to say the least - and also because banks are not sure if subways will work in smaller towns and are taking far more precautions.
If you dont mind me asking, how / where did you hear that ? I've been asking the flooring company who is supposed to be fitting their flooring when they are starting to do the work for them, they dont know whats going on ! Weird eh.
Anyway, whenever they do start i've got a lot of "additional promotions " ready to kill them stone dead within a month, maybe two lol.

I heard from a subway franchisee who is a friend of mine... but i dont know what to make of it to be honest. I just think potential franchisees should look further than the fact just because its a big brand and they are everywhere does not mean that subway will work in small towns such as Hawick and Girvan. Franchises have, overall, a good success rate, but it cant be a good thing if people go into this type of business head first without any research. Your asking for it then....
if subway start up in the next 6 months they will certainly - and i guarantee it - not last one hour of opening with their prices.
With the media highlighting the credit crunch and a possible recession upon everyone, believe me, people are not spending money in my town. Ask any trader in the town ! Its concerning !
