Surely the proliferation of Subway stores will mimic the expansion of cafes and coffee shops in the late 90's. There is a mad rush to get a Subway on each corner and then like the coffee shop groups, they find that there are too many units to be sustained and the number of outlets reduces.
What happened to the BE in Galashiels ?
I passed through the town last week & it's gone !!
In it's place is a brand new shiny B & Go
Seemed like a busy BE to me right next to the crossing & at the start of the pedestrian area, how come its now a Baguette N Go ?
Although i think the food in the BE is Better, the new shop in it's place looks way smarter !
Can u enlighten me Saracen ??
Happy Chappy
BE in Galashiels has moved to new premises in the town.... and its ranked one of the high performing BE shops in the network
I would just like to say a couple of things..... Ive just opened up a BE and have been up and running for a month. The nearest Subway is about half a mile away and ive been amazed and pleased at the amount of customers that were subway fans, turning to BE. The first thing is the price. Customers want value, especially in these times. Secondly, we get customers who cant decide what they actually want on a baguette, because of the massive amount of fillings that we offer. And finally, from the feedback ive been getting, is that you cant go into Subway everyday for lunch, unless you want the same thing everyday, whereas BE have a much wider range of snacks eg. Baked potatoes, paninis, salad boxes etc. All in all Subway will last another 5 years, because as i have said the development agents dont care if there are Subways on every corner of a high street, they want to open up 2010 shops by 2010, and they dont care where they open.

Subway wont reduce outlets - its the franchisees that have spent the best part of 150k that have to either sell it on or close the thing down. If the franchisee makes money or not, Subway want 12.5% every week.
