    Thanks guys...

This has lead to another question...

Once the name has changed from aaa ltd to bbb ltd, does that mean aaa ltd is available for anyone else to register?

    Thanks again...

I've no conclusive proof on this (maybe someone has) but I imagine this is not possible. Company records at companies house show previous names that a company was registered under so I would have thought it would compromise their system to allow that name to be registered again.

UPDATE: It seems you can register a company name where the limited company has been dissolved. However, change of name wouldn't consitute that as far as I know... it remains in the Companies House database as a former name of the company.

Yes, it's easy to change a company name - just a £10 registration charge the last time I checked. I have done it myself.

Once you change the name, the old name may become available for anyone else to use - unless your name change is only minor.

As an alternative to name change you can also keep the orginal company name but trade under a new name - such as 'aaa ltd' t/a 'bbb'

    Regards

    Hi George.

What happens if they change the name of the Company and after 3 months of the new company they decide to close down and no money has gone through the new company. Its then closed down by Companies house but no accounts filed as the new company has been dormant for three months.

Is this legal as this is what we done due to 15 months out of work due to the recession, i was once told by my accountant once the business is closed down the debt dies with the business.

We have now started trading under a new name hoping 2010 will be a better year for us in the electrical trade.

    Thanks

    Neil

You can maintain a dormant company for as long as you wish - provided you make an annual return and dormant accounts statement.

If your company was closed down, then Companies House must have received a request to close it down.
