I have been seriously considering doing a couple of county shows this year and wondered what the cost would be of a small stand. Perhaps I could rent one, any thoughts please and how much would it cost to buy/rent.
I can highly recommend a company called Splash Display. website
If you speak to a guy called Stewart Wilkins i'm sure he will sort you out. They also do a system called Xpressions, it's very light weight and a 3 meter by 3 meter stand fits in one bag which you can carry on your shoulder. Here's some examples xpressions.
I am no way related to this company just thought i would share my good contacts.

It's just a though but we've stopped putting on stands. We found that we get as much business walking around the shows with our material and talking to people who are exhibiting!
Also if you have leaflets, try finding the coffee shops and leaving copies on the tables.
Also just wearing a distinctive top and handing out flyers can work well.
The distintive top makes people think you are an exhibitor and they almost expect you to thrust a flyer into their hand.
I'd do that for a few shows and if you see a really good one, then apply for a stand but insist on the spot you want (BTW - the spot by the toilets is actually a good one - peolpe tend to hang around waiting for partners etc to come out so they are usually in browsing mode!)
Hey Mike, what a great idea - thanks. But don't you need permission to do this?
In view of the cost, I was wondering if I could find a second hand one. Not too big, just something that we could display leaflets, and an overhead board to put a banner!
We have only done one show, and had balloons for the children with our logo. It's trying to find pet sitters, rather than tout for work.
I can't tell you about how good/reliable any of these are though... I have partners we work with but none of them deal with second hand or leasing. Sorry can't help much.
Beware of the cheap banner stands they usually break the first time you use them. Depends on the type of show/stand what could be recommended. YOu would definately need permission to hand out flyers but yes that is a good idea
