Well, why not send as many Christmas ecards as you like for only £5.99, save a fortune, put your company name on the message and be green at the same time
Google Adwords - Expensive, but it works (for toys and gadgets)
eBay - for consumer electronics is absolutely brilliant
eBay Shop - for toys and gadgets, pretty poor
Amazon - Recently started for toys and gadgets, better than eBay shop, but bloody expensive
Google Shopping - Freebie, works a treat (thanks Khalid)
A1BF (banner) - Early days to say
Lycos (banner) - Very expensive, 1 click a week under certain keywords.
I haven't started advertising yet, waiting for new site. But it's interesting getting orders via google when I haven't done anything yet

Direct Marketing - Used as a way of informing clients (existing and potential) of new products. Initially quite expensive, however, a great way to build up a good, clean, relevant mailing list. Thomson (directory offline) - They were so desperate to get us in they created a new category, we are the only company listed in that cat. Result squat not one call. Yellow Pages (directory offline) - 1/4 page ad - enquiries in one year = 3 none of them were sales, just enquiries for products that we did not provide. Organic SERP's - Wow so cool. Referrals - Great, free and incredibly cost effective. B2B Networking - OK, not as good in rural areas but it does work.
On here - thats the only official place I advertise at the moment. I'm also getting a bit of work through word of mouth from other clients at the moment too.
So my advartising spend is pretty low at present but will be looking to advertise a bit more later this year when my new site is launched. Interesting to see other's successes (and failures) though....
Only advertising i have done is with my current young enterprise company. We have only really tried two things:
1. emails to everyone in the college(roughly 3000)
2. posters around college
However not having a big budget for advertising has been a big downfall as we havent had enough profit to get an adwrods account up and running as it would cost to much.
Also we needed to keep putting the message in their face about us and that has not been done so at least 3 times before a small percentage will notice.
Our marketing hasnt gone to well however i feel for me personaly it has been a good learning curve

It has taken a while to nail it but i've come up with an ad formula that virtually guarantees me a very tidy ammount of responses and sales every month.
If I need more work I jusy run the ad in a different areas paper.
I'm having a dabble with direct mail at the moment - I'll see how it goes...
I sell central heating and new boilers btw

direct mail - just starting results to follow
word of mouth - fantastic results
Adverts in local papers - zilch won't do that again
our website - great results
email newsletters - good response.
press releases - good response and free
Bestof.co.uk - get 4-5 enquiries a month from that
A1 - early days
BNI - By far the most successful for me. Been a member for 9 months and had about 5K of business through that.
Direct Marketing / Leaflet drops - only tried this once and didn't get much response. I think I'd need to do a few spread over a couple of months to hit home with the message.
Tried Yellow Pages and found it a complete waste of time.
