We supply many items to Sports (football/rugby) Clubshops in the UK and are looking at alternative routes for some of our core products. The 2 main products we are initially looking at are mugs and mousemats of which we currently make over 50k pcs a year. Mugs are our fastest sellers at the retail outlets of the clubshops but we are going to have a look at the corporate side. I know this is a flooded market but I believe we will have a better pricing capability over our competitiors. How much cheaper do you think we would need to go to make it worthwhile for the customer?
If anyone has bought mugs recently do you have any price guides as to what you paid? I would be happy knocking mugs out at £1.95 ea for 50 (cheaper for A1 members) of one design with no artwork charge or other costs except for delivery and this is the same for mousemats.
Do you think this is a viable market or to crowded?

depends on the quality in my opinion Andrew, you can buy mousemats for 1 pence each off amazon but you know they will be rubbish. I have also bought mugs that I wouldn't want to drink out of so cheap isn't always the best.
I know buying in bulk brings up the costs and everyone expects something for nothing but if you have the right product and can market it then sell it at the right price not neccesarily the cheapest price.
It's all retail quality as this is our standard business route. I deal with China/Taiwan on items like flags and always steer clear of the cheap options. If it is for a promotional mass giveaway, cheap can sometimes do the job but for anything else you need a bit of quality.
Fuzzy - I'd be happy to hear any feedback from you as I know you are involved in some similar items.
I am also considering going further into trade manufacturing as we just got a decent pad printer and hot foil printer as well.
Yeah! That would be a good starting point (and pricing). There are only 4 or 5 decent suppliers in the UK so I am sure we both have covered them all. If you want I'll go first on the pricing
Xpres do have the best mugs as Thailand quality is far better than China and their pricing is competitive on quantity. I now also find thier coasters to be the cheapest. Subli-Nation is very good overall and try to price themselves underneath Transferpress. If you do any decent quantity of mousemats I have recently found a new supplier that also supplies a couple of the above - Matatak. Novachrome are best for metal and generally very good all round and worth looking at if you haven't already.
I'll PM you some pricing that I get. I'll be gutted if you get better as I have spent so long getting them down. Saying that, I could use you as a batering tool (no offence) if you are cheaper.
