Mmm, I've just had a really interesting conversation with someone from our local college and they've asked me to teach their photoshop course. I may consider doing this but would have to do my PGCE first. Has anyone done this course? It's too late to call anyone now so you guys are my best bet until morning lol. I've heard you can do it in something silly like 14 weeks but don't know if this is true?

Hi Nickie
I haven't done the course but I have peviously worked at a college and the HE student funding unit of the LEA. As I remember PGCE courses are run in various ways ie; part-time evening/ part-time/fast track etc. I do remember that the colleges used to allow people to teach as long as they were attending the PGCE - this may have changed but worth enquiring.
Don't know if you have looked into funding but there used to be alot of funding about for teacher training courses eg: the college may well fund your course as they have asked you to teach, LEA funding and HE student support funding don't be put off if somebody tells you that you don't get HE support for part/time courses - there is funding out there for some part/time courses including PGCE, always ask to speak to a supervisor as they are usually more in tune with the regs. Also, some of the funding for teacher training is not income assessed as per the usual student funding, just eligibility check.
best of luck with your course & teaching, sounds exciting.

Thanks for your posts guys, it really helps me out. I'm going to start looking into it tomorrow- I hadn't really thought about funding but now you mention it I'm sure I seen somewhere that the government will fund your course (something to do with this 'shortage of keyworkers' or something as I recall). Thanks again, you're the best. Oh and good luck Fuzz, I'll let you know what I find out as and when.
