Default Grangemouth Strike could mean No Fuel for Scotland for a month.

Just wondering if the English Newspapers are running with the story that the Grangemouth Refinery is starting a shut down due to strike action. And that this could potentially leave Scotland and Northern England with severe fuel shortages for up to a month.

Covered in the Guardian. Does not seem to have created much of an impression in the media in general.

However, every petrol station in Ayrshire currently has 1/2 hour queues at it.

This is very very interesting!

No-one's posted on this thread, and there seems to be very little coverage of this south of the border. I know that Scots news doesn't get big space in English media, but I would have thought that something like this would this would deserve coverage in the UK national news rather than just being squeezed into "local".

A quick look at the BBC news front page today has "milk teeth found in Jersey", the lead story is something we all know about BAA, and two latin american leaders speaking out about biofuels. None of which of these I would deem to be UK headline stories.

If this story related to Fawley refinery, and the area of the South of England was the one who was potentially going to be without direct fuel supplies for up to a month, do you think that this story would be strictly reserved to BBC South's newsdesk?

(No bitterness, or sarcasm, just interested!!)

It was covered on BBC news. They had an interview (yesterday, I think) with the chief executive of the refinery.

I've been reading up on it on the BBC news UK section.

Nope, hadn't heard about it. Should have made national news 'properly' IMO.

It is on the BBC news website but only in the regional section.

I posted about it on another forum about the panic buying etc, the English forum members thought it was because the petrol price was going up and us canny Scots were buying as much as we can whilst it was cheaper. lol

I've been reading about it in today's Daily Mail - the angle they've used is the strike is being used as an excuse for profiteering as prices have been put up by a whopping 5p a litre today.

My local petrol station is now charging £1.20 per litre for diesel I noticed this morning

You can read the article HERE

its madness really. if folk up here just bought their normal weekly amount there won't be a shortage, but because folk are going overboard there is going to be a shortage now!!

I can understand taxi drivers etc, but other folk are panicking too.
