It has occured to me, and i might be wrong, wouldn't it be a good idea for people who build websites, and the SEO boffins to form alliances.
I think, as part of a sales pitch for a website designer, to tell people, as well as the functionality of the website, any site would be good to go, SEO, so to speak.
well your right it would be a great sales pitch, but it rarely happens that a web design company has a top class SEO inhouse.
Most of the top guys are independants, and the best do not have to advertise for work to sell there snake skin oil , and are very chosy about what type of project they work on.
We are currently re-doing our site, our web design agency does have basic knowledge of SEO but I have hired the services of an independent SEO consultant.
I do often put in suggestions for SEO purposes and sometimes the designer does get annoyed with me, saying the final brief did state it had to be a very user-friendly, nice looking site, not optimised for SEO purposes. I stated a user-friendly beautiful site is not much use if visitors cannot find yours site in the first place.
It did go very quiet for a while, but I think they got the point!

I thought that good SEO is also good for the web visitors?
I agree with the OP and good web design these days needs to include at least a basic amount of SEO, to benefit both the business and web users.
Should have been the only way to work years ago. I'm still surprised that the 2 are thought of as stand alone disciplines, would not touch one without the other.
