Default Thinking of running an SEO and PPC training day in West Yorkshire

Hi all, im after some feedback if you can please. I run an SEO and PPC consultancy and I'm thinking of running a 1 day training course for PPC or SEO. This would be covering the basics on both and be at an introductory level. Maybe I'll just stick to 1 topic on the day, so PPC perhaps meaning I'd run 2 one day courses each month, each day covers either PPC or SEO.

I have access to a very nice function room in a local Golf Club with excellent views and catering and a very pleasant environment.

I wouldn't charge London prices but more affordable rates as of yet undecided.

I'd probably look at 40 places at £250 a head for the day to include refreshments and literature to take away and a months support via email, with a discount if they book both SEO and PPC days too.

Do you think there would be much interest?

Yep, I might have been interested but that's way too expensive for just one day and one course!

You think? Have you not looked around the net and seen the prices, I think it's a good rate when compared to others, and thats based on northern prices not London where prices go above 1k. Also as people have mentioned, when you consider it might cost that to put an ad in a paper for 1 day it offers a lot more return.

It's a lot less than I'd charge and a lot less than Ray's mentor Tin charges. Mark's right, £250 is not expensive IMHO.

Yeah but taking into account travel costs etc it works out just as expensive if not more than other courses closer to home. I know Tin Soldier Design do a 2 day telephone course for £900 and I'd rather do that than spend nigh on £400 and have the pain of having to travel and/or stay overnight and have to travel back the day after. There's also reputation to consider here too. For example, I'd be more than willing to pay Dave or Tin Soldier Design almost anything if I had it to spend but as yet we know nothing about you or your reputation!

Well the courses are for people based around West Yorkshire so no overnight stay or lengthy travelling would be required. I'm not going to advertise in London for a course in Yorkshire, all advertising would be local.

As for the reputation, well it's nothing I can do without it being earned, I have client testimonials on my site and present clients are used to provide references if needed. Most of my business is through referrals and word of mouth, I do little PPC advertising.

It's an idea I have been thinking about for a while now and im testing the waters as to the feedback on it. I'll be targeting West Yorkshire based candidates.

I am very familiar with course costs in Yorkshire, and especially with businesses (not individuals, who are less likely to pay this sum) and I am only giving you my opinion, as requested. Pointless asking if we think there would be much interest if you are then going to defend it!

Im not sure why London costs is brought into it - as no one expects to pay the going rate of another area anyway.

On comparison to say Tin, I wouldnt pay those fees either, but again, that is just my opinion though those who have paid and found it beneficial will say it was worth it, its just not for everyone and also people have their cut off as to what is worth it and what is not.

it is no point learning it oif you have no intention of implementing it and seeing it through, as well as having the budget to implement something.

Of course, if you have the marketing budget to advertise your course for a couple of months on a big scale, you would do better than if you have a small marketing budget as thats what will pull the numbers in.

Your looking at £10,000 for a days work,Unless your a top named SEO .I would agree with Iodine.Maybe your price point should be £99.If your considering 40 places.

I am always suspicious of SEO course as I can only see them teaching the very basis level, which is in the public domain anyway.

Personally I would not teach SEO as I would consider it cutting my own throat.

Hi Mark

I would say that it was a fair price, funnily enough it is something that we have been toying with recently and decided on a similiar figure to yours for a one day general workshop type course. I have been doing some market research on courses around the country and this seems a fairly typical price.

It is a bit unfair to compare it with our bespoke 2 and a half day courses as by its nature you can only give general advice whereas our course is tailored to a persons exact website needs with the ability to get right down to precise issues relating to your web space and market. This is followed up with a half day review of your work once some of it is completed.
