Default Market research...

How do I go about obtaining some figures off the internet about how many computers the average household has, can't seem to find any information on the Office of National Statistics website... would it just be a case of standing in the street with pen and paper?

My last research in 2006 showed 75% of UK households had internet access. Unless you need near accurate figures (far more accurate than standing in a street asking 100 people out of 70 million or whatever the UK populaiton is, Id suggest an average 1.5/2 per hosuehold. We have 3 for instance and Im sure many more do, especially if you count all those working form home with a computer.

Cool, you got any evidence of this that you may be able to send me? Princes Trust require evidence to prove my market research...

try websites like

http://www.thinkbroadband.com

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/

they should give you the known stats and then stick up a poll on a thread here and get as many as you can to say how many they have. In your report explain that you used figures from "wherever" and tested those figures with your own market research and they confirmed the given figures by whoever.

That just shows you haven't just googled or stood in a street, you have used your noggin and tested known data.

Well that's what I would do anyway

Could try asking PC World, but then again, you would need to ask them the question "How many did your customers return?" in the same breath.

I did y market research for an Agency many many moons ago (before Internet was available) with a pen and clipboard on the streets
