Personally, I have found clusty dot com very useful - better than Google in my view [and it still is] - but this is definitely the next generation of search engines.
I have also found backlinkwatch dot com [not affiliated to me in any way] a useful tool for analysing websites in specific market segments.

Their spider is a right pain,
It's been crawling my site for weeks now and acts different to most.
It does something with javascript and effects AdSense stats, everytime it
hits a page it shows up as a page impression.

I agree, fine for novelty factor, but when I found myself turning to Google to get more information about SearchMe, I realised that flashy graphics didn't beat the simplicity of Google.
