i recently decided to try start my own company, was wondering if any 1 has any ideas for advertising and how to get customers, also ive just made a webiste www grproof co uk tell me what u think

From someone who has a lot of flat roofs I found your site quite interesting, out of curiosity how does GRP compare in price to traditional flat roofs and can it be used as just a partial patch?

As for marketing I would of thought you could do some pretty specific local direct marketing to firms and homes as you can see if they are potential clients from the outside!! However, while I thought your website was clear and informative, improving your SEO on that could be one of your best routes to attracting clients, as far as I could see you have no Meta Descriptions or keywords to get you ranking in search engines to get yourself seen by perspective customers.

Anyway. Make yourself at home on the forum and shout if you need any help.

its abit dearer than felt but it will last well over 20 years and comes with a warranty where as felt last 7-10 and doesnt look as good

Website looks good...only one thing i would add, the "about us" page is empty so i would either write something or delete the page...imo, its one of the most important pages on the site for your type of business....i want to know WHO im considering employing and what the background of the business is.....testimonials go a lonnnnnng way in persuading people to call too i think, and as John said , SEO the site like crazy......

As a local operator, you should put aside budget for advertising in your local portal.
Also try to put up great photos of your work, on your web site
That does so much more than just text description
