a/ Value is more important than price - eg....if you sell a £50 car stereo...with a DVD "Extremely easy installation guide" ( costs £1 to throw in)...you may be able to charge £60 and still outsell those selling the same product at £50.. so adding additional bonuses to make your product different is important
b./ Everyone who has ever tested price, knows that the number 7 often increases response, sometimes by substantial numbers £47 outsells £49 etc...
c/The lowest price does not necessarily win where information is concerned. I have found cases where an ebook that would not sell at £17 , sells well at £37.. There are celevrated cases of nicholas;s book of Business forms, was a dead product at $20...and a blockbuster at $87... A guy called reynolds discovered he sold a lot more of the same course at well over £1000 than he ever did at £400
d/You once asked for comment on a computer repair site. I thought that the fact that all the prices were either £5 , £10 or £15...not £12.73 actually hurt the credibility of the site, and made it look like an experiment not a running businees
In the end, I think you should test price. Get a split testing script, and see which sells most

Reason: It didnt read right!!!
On a like for like basis price has got to win hands down
there simply isnt another variable in my opinion
example.....2 indentical cars, in fact the exact same car
1 bought from a main dealership
1 bought from a broker
The car purchased from the Broker is the exact same car as the dealership, in fact it would even be collected from said dealership, with same warranty and service
Difference is price
Dealership you might negotiate a small discount from a dealership
Broker gives you a far better price as he works to a smaller margin
you get the same car for alot less
That is unless you are a little savvy and tell the dealership what price you can buy the exact same car at from said broker and tell them to better it!

I take your points ,but I was refering to identical products.
Alvin
Thats where I think you should muddy the waters alv...
eg your guarantee can be different, throw in a freebie....offer a buy two 10% off, or throw in a combined deal with something else. ..the "online helpdesk" to use the product - most of all some information product that completments the product
Anything to make your deal look different - and also the ability to make a time limited offer.
A great offer but from a consumer point of view and given the current economic situation If I viewed an advert advertising £1500 of FREE fuel I would tend to want to negotiate a cash discount
i think giving such a big fuel saving highlights to me that the margin is maybe a little too high
Having looked around I know for a fact the machine is competitivly priced - however I would rather see
£1000 OFF and £500 of FREE fuel.....afterall, how long would it take to use £1500 worth of fuel?
My 2p worth.....but as this is a luxury and admittedly an interest I would love to take up I would rather want to see a cash discount

Well the £1500 of fuel is in relation to the cost of the boats.
with 430 HP I'd rather not answer the MPG question.
