Well I could be wrong but I would say that if most went to local homes that would be the main reason because the leaflet is targetted at local businesses wanting to advertise.

How many were distributed to businesses?

I used to receive a free local advertiser through the door once a month when I lived in Norfolk.

When it first started there was only a few ads but then all of a sudden it was packed with ads and space soon sold out quickly I learnt when I tried to place an ad.

I think you need to approach businesses direct first and ask them if they want a free advertisment then give them a price structure after that. Once you have printed the first one and delivered it you will then no doubt get lots of people wanting a space in it

Probably best telesales, have a good pitch ready and just be friendly and say that it is free for the first edition with no obligation.

If that is the situation around you then yes, I think it is difficult. But as you don't know how many of the homes you distributed to have tradesman living in them then I think it is impossible to measure the success of your campaign.

Perhaps you need to test the market and distribute a smaller more measurable number of flyers. It will take a lot of work but maybe you could go through your local Yellow Pages (which you can search online) and find the business address of say 200 local business and then directly distribute to them.

From that you should expect a better return because your ad will be more targetted and also you will be able to get a reasonable idea of how many a larger distribution to a bigger list of quality business addresses will bring in.

Or do as Nicky has suggested - just find the business phone numbers online in Yellow Pages and give them a call.

excellent idea , we do still have 6000 leaflet left to deliver , so we can do that with ease.
