Default What is the best business advice you have been given

What is the best business advice that you have ever been given before you set up in business as well as running your business.

One of the best bits of advice that I was given was to treat your smallest customer with the same customer service as your biggest customer as one day they could become your biggest customer

Tell that to the good people in Aberdeen. We've got folk here driving Astons, living in £1m houses who are basically just employees You could also look at employees of startups such as Google - lots of millionaires

I think the advice pre-dates dot-coms etc. There are a few businesses where you can get rich these days, but still they're few and far between and you really need to be amongst the founders or first few employees. Remember, many of the dot-com people worked for stock options rather than salary, so if the company didn't suceed they didn't get anything... Generally speaking just being a regular employee is not going to make you rich (well paid maybe).

The advice I was given and repeat continually to clients is 'do one thing every day to promote your business'. It is consistent effort that gets results in PR rather than one big spash then nothing for months.
