    Default How to charge client?

My client asked me to do a project urgently for him. It was a weekend, and he apologized for this fact and told me to bill him extra because it was the weekend. Project is done now.

What do I write in the bill? "Extra weekend pay" just doesn't sound right

In the past I have billed him for regular hourly rate, and also an extra hourly rate for one project that needed to be done on a stat-holiday. That is straight forward, but what do I write in the bill for this extra work that was done off-regular hours?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Why do you even have to state that?

    Can't you say...
    <date> @ £x/hr by x amount of hours = £ (ie normal rate)
<date> @ £x/hr by x amount of hours = £ (ie higher rate for the weekend)
    Then total it up.

    Hope this helps.

I considered just writing the # of hours with a higher hourly rate, but this entire project was done during that one weekend, so I would only have 1 line of: "<date> @ £x/hr by x amount of hours = £" like you suggested, which might scare him in thinking that I have raised my normal hourly rates.

I don't foresee a problem with getting that extra pay because he is an honest and honorable guy, but he is a bit forgetful so I would imagine that he doesn't even remember telling me to charge him extra.

I would really rather have that extra pay be titled as something, similar to how you would write "over-time pay:...." or "holiday pay:...." etc...

    OK now I get you.

You can use line one and two as a note:
    "normal working time monday - friday from 9am to 5pm @ £xx/hr"
"additional time increases and charged at a pre agreed rate"

Then go into the project :
bla bla bla - Saturday <date> 5 hours @ £xx/hr - as agreed (quote email or tel dated xx/xx/xx discussed with the client)

    Just a suggestion.

We call it "Premium time" and invoice it as such.
    Before 6am and after 6pm Mon to Fri it's + 33%.
    Saturdays it's + 50%
    Sundays it's + 100%

Most times if it is needed I just let a client know that the normal price will remain the same and on the same invoice will show an expedited fee for the services needed in the time span as well for their notes as well as my own.

You can put it as "Additional Service" or "Weekend Rate". Companies rates weekends 50% or 100% more than usual and there is nothing to be embarrassing about that.

    Default As agreed

Agree the price with the client and just use that text on the invoice.
"Work done as agreed by xxxx = £"

In that situation I use this phrase:

"Work done (change as necessary) on Sat/Sun date/date

x hours at an agreed fee of £y per hour"
