I think I know what the answer to this will be but I'm going to ask anyway
If you were to download a piece of software for thirty days free of charge that costs £299 if you decided to keep it, would you prefer to not have to enter your credit card (which would be charged after thirty days) or would you not mind?
I would prefer not to enter my credit card details. Just for the fear of forgetting about when the 30 days was up and being charged for something I may not have wanted.

The thing that I think about those 'gimmicks' (that is my perception) is I ask myself "why is the seller, after even giving away a free 30 day trial becasue they are convinced i'ts great and it works, needing to pin down my payment?"
Everyone knows that a certain amount of people will end up not cancelling and that is how this gimmick works. The only time I have done this is when I would have bought it there and then anyway. I think Constant Contact might be one that springs to mind, and Carbonite another. I got the free trial but had all intentions of buying their service anyway.
