OK folks, I didn't want to go off topic in the other thread about SSL certs, but thought we should discuss and create a list of formalities businesses should or could have in place. Some things wont apply to all businesses of course, but a useful check list none the less. Either legislative or just good practice.
If you can add a link to the relevant website, like i've done below, that will also help others to get more information.
So we have had SSL Certs mentioned. I wont choose a link because it's commercial.
Then I brought up Data Protection registration which costs £35.00 a year. You will need to check out whether it applies to your business.
Its not solely for business start ups as it will be useful to existing businesses as well but yes, I said we will make a sticky if it fills up with enough info to warrant it.
Depending on the type of business but you may need Public Liability Insurance.
Also if you have a website you should have clear T & Cs and Privacy Policy and make sure that you point out your T & Cs in writing to all potential clients - it is not sufficient to simply have them on your site and hope that all clients read it.
If you sell goods online, ensure that you comply with the distance selling regulations.
