Default Google - love 'em or hate 'em?

Rightly or wrongly many love to hate Microsoft after their many years of dominance of the software market, but what about Google?

There's a good article in the Guardian here that discusses Google's dominance. It's interesting reading to see how far they have come and how they have got to where they are now.

So are Google to be hated as many do Microsoft? Or should we love them and appluad their success?

I've not used G**gle for years. I much prefer MSN Live.

Cluttered with ads? Yeah, ok...

I don't think its a question of hating google ,there a business same as anyone else.

Therefore they lack morals or ethics and there soul purpose is to make money.

I do think there dominence is a major problem for all business, online and offline.

Alvin

Google are well liked by a lot of users because the site isn't over cluttered with adverts, it's fast, it's reliable and it's easy to use. Best of all, it's free!

For web developers they have a superb set of analytic tools and they allow web developers to earn money from Google adverts by placing them on their own sites.

Products like Google Maps and Google Earth are popular for the same reasons as their web site. Can you remember how amazed you were when you first saw Google Earth? If they have ended up with a position of dominance in the industry, it is because they have earned it the hard way.

Great post Mike, I agree entirely.

Google may not be all sweetness and light, but then is any company? They have made a huge impact on the Internet and hundreds of thousands of businesses have benefited as a result and most without paying Google a penny. As you say, they deserve their dominance.

Peter

It's easy to be envious of companies as succesful as Google, but they've made their money the hard way by creating a search engine which by being so user friendly, have secured a huge following - me included.

I think they deserve congratulations for being one of the major business success stories of modern times.

Hmmmnnn... There seems to be a huge community of awe struck Google fans, almost to the level of sycophantism.

Personally, I have no problem with Google but I do not swoon over them. They are a market leading brand and definitely a forward thinking business with great love from their staff. They have contributed immensely to the internet experience but at the same time they have benefited to the nth power. When the curtain comes down at the end of each business day, or each internet session, they are only just a supplier of services and products.

And while I heavily use their products (happily, I might add), I'm not about to offer them my first child. Sorry
