Default Should I put time back into something I left a while back?

    Hi,

Quite a few months ago I made the decision to give up on Cornish Auto to concentrate on my main business, Asonda. I didn't have the money or time or will to bother trying with UKBC or Cornish Auto.

(Sorry for mentioning my business forum, it is relevant to my situation)

Asonda = Going OK, not getting enough income for a safe future.

UKBC = Not a priority, no income and is slowly getting members and activity.

Cornish Auto = No Income right now, completely left it alone, abandoned.

So tonight, I was just checking my website statistics. Asonda and UKBC were usual, with UKBC having a high unique visitor stats.

Cornish Auto, I had abandoned, so I just decided to take a quick look at the stats...and what a suprise! It gets more hits than my Asonda website.

Do you think I should put a bit of time and effort into it?

It's the only unique Cornish 'ONLY' car advert website. It shouldn't take up too much time, can run off leaflets for it and deliver them with my PC leaflets etc, I'm thinking maybe I should update all the site to Joomla 1.5, get the latest release of the Car Component, get a new template and then just go for it...

    www.cornishauto.co.uk

With the idea being when activity really picks up, I can then start charging people for listings.

    What do you lot think?

    Cheers

    Jamie

Are you a member of Network Cornwall? Free to join and there is functionality to email all members as often as you like with pretty much everything.

There are always emails from people looking to buy or sell cars (probably 3 emails a day on average).

Might be worth a look if you're going to go back down that route.

    Hi J my old mukka

Your Cornish Autos site is quite a nice idea, but I think it would take a serious amount of advertising, and a decent initial budget to get it going properly.

Having said that, why not concentrate on your other business ventures, but keep it going.....

    1) Work on the site when you have a little time, maybe even turning it into a sort of work-style-hobby
    2) Let everyone advertise on the site for free, until you get it built up a bit traffic-wise, advertisers-wise, etc
    3) Social Network, join everything Cornish (except maybe the Dirty Sanchez stuff), get it noticed
    4) When you are secure in your other business, and feel the time is right, then make it monetised and it might earn then.

The only thing I would say is - ensure you make it very clear that adverts are 'free until further notice', so you are not springing a big surprise onto your regulars (when you have some) and they don't get anything to gripe about then. Keep them informed, and let them know well in advance when you intend to launch the site for real, and make them pay for adverts. Best always to be upfront and as honest as possible.

And get all the additional services you can get negotiated for it (eg the 2nd poster above, etc).

You never know, in a couple of years time, it could be big in Cornwall....

Note - I have just noticed, I actually know very little about Cornwall......so I am coming over for a holiday next summer.....and you're my guide
