Default Need some help to lead me in the right direction

    Hi all,

I recently joined a marketing and communication company which operates from Leicester City centre and was hoping for some helpful advice on a project that I've been asked to do.

The Directors of the company are currently looking to take advantage of the latest technologies to allow them to be more innovative and competititve.

The business has recently added event/conference organisation to its portfolio of services and wishes to be able to stage events in a much greater range of locations than is typically possible. This would enable them to provide visitor registration on-site in venues which may not have, or wish to allow network access. For example, events taking place in listed or unusual properties and at festivals etc.

Prior to the event, the business will need to take bookings /payments from visitors . During the event key staff will be managing admissions and attendance at the hired locations. This will include issuing passes and recording individual attendances, possibly at specific sessions etc as well as dealing with unexpected visitors. It is intended that each of these activities be both efficient and secure.

I think they are asking for some wireless network system of some sort?

It should also monitor activities at the site from the Leicester office and for on-site staff to access company data in Leicester as the event takes place.

Also the company wants to know if its possible to impliment a trial system?

I need to present all the above in a report and would be very grateful for any advice to lead me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

It would help to know a little more about what you already have in place.

Have you established a way to sell tickets or manage registrations at all yet?

If your real concern here is how to get internet access in a remote(ish) location you could look into satellite data links or 3g data cards hooked up to laptops.

If you're really stuck, dig out some details of companies who organise festivals and give them a call, as you might find it something you can completely outsource to a third party who has a proven track record of delivering solutions to these problems.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.

We are a new company that has just started out and we don't have much in place in the way off selling tickets or managing registrations which is why we are doing research on the best possible technologies and ways in which we can do this and other things mentioned in the first post.

We have had a word with third party organisations that deals with festivals but they don't cover the network aspect of things which makes it a bit difficult since we don't want a permanent wired setup as the events will be temporary and we will be moving to and from different locations within the city.

One of our main aims is to find a secure way of selling tickets and managing registrations at unknown locations which may not have any sort of Internet facilities also our staff should be allowed to access the main office data from these locations and also monitor from the main site.

For getting data from main office I think a VPN network of some sort will be needed once I can get a net connection?

I would be very grateful if you could post any more ideas as I'm not getting very far at the moment trying to find a solution to all of the above in post 1.

    Thanks.

The system itself will need to be set up, but you could easily use laptops with Mobile Broadband for the events themselves. That way you will not need to be relient on any wireless broadband at the location itself. If you can get a mobile phone signal, you can get mobile broadband.

You might get a little more info here http://www.broadband-expert.co.uk/mobile-broadband/

    Thanks for the link.

Now I have to find a secure way of selling tickets and managing registrations and how to access the main office data from these locations and also allow main site staff to monitor activities.
