Have you tried using any home design software such as Google Sketch Up, Design Workshop Lite, etc.. ?

I am fond of designing houses and I only just use some free home design software.

I asked about this because I just want to know your opinions about using those software (including free and paid) and which of them do you like most?

Now that is why your post is a tad confusing...

Home design software in my eyes means people who design websites at home...

House design software means something else...do you mean someting like CAD, or what...

Our first house was a self build. We had some specific requirements for the land we were building on, including building over a well, the sun only being at the back of the house, number of rooms.

We looked at lots of plans and could not find anything that was suitable. In the end we made a list of requirements and gave them to a architect - he put them altogether and came up with a good design. I think even with software we may not have managed to come up with anything better.

If you are looking for some software I would suggest looking in some of the self build magazines see if there are any reviews.

I looked at Sketchup some time ago. It's a stunning piece of software, especially given it's free, in my qualified opinion.
