Wordpress sidebar help

Okay gang I now have blog designs I am at last happy with and it's time to start playing with widgets and sidebars.

How do I tell things where to go on the page - ie you go in the right sidebar and go between that and that.

In the old wordpress you just dragged and dropped but I can't find that page now.

I want to add things like social bookmarking links, a poll and the animated gif image for my site.

Off the top of my head if you go to the 'Design' menu in your dashboard there is a 'Widgets' sub menu there.

You can add, move & drag stuff around there.

Have tried that but if I add a widget then one disapperas. The theme is widget ready for 10 widgets so not sure what is happening.

It also won't let me move things around to where I want them.
