Just thought I'd share this with everyone, I've been doing a coding project for the past 3 weeks, I showed the client the progress and she was happy with it, but then she asked if she could have a networking bar made for the bottom of each page with links to all the sites they own. I agreed and did this, then she asked to add a admin section to it so that it is easier to add/remove links. I again agreed and did this, then she sent a list of about 40 different functions she wants for it including a custom text editor, numerous buttons to change the background, report a error in the bar and to copy the whole content of the bar, and make it SEO friendly and finally make at least 50 different textures for backgrounds just for the small networking bar, then said she'd pay $400 for it! You don't need to ask what I said in reply to it
To be fair, I dont think a lot of people realise that asking for a site to do extra things actually involves extra work thus extra cost. You have to make it clear in your quote what is included and as soon as you receive a request for something outside the scope of your order, you then send a quote for the additional work.
The client can then choose if they really want this extra work or not. It's only what any other business would do - if you ask for 2 extra slices of bacon at the butchers they will tell you how much extra it will cost, so it really is no different!

Yeah I'll have no problem with adding extra costs on, it's happend before where they give themselves a quote and assume that the price is right, in this occasion I was amazed by the fact that she wanted so many features for such a little thing.
