Im Looking to add some new buttons/banners and promotional images & text to my website. Can anyone suggest the best or at least good bit of software to create these please.

Photoshop rules the roost for web design. But you could try Fireworks if you're feeling adventurous.

Normally you would be able to dl the trials for 30 days and use them fully, but they seem to be offline at the moment - worth checking though - FW is my weapon of choice

downloaded both recommended (photoshop & Gimpshop) so im testing them out.
Bit tricky to use but i've just downloaded free book posted on another thread so i hope that will help.

Photoshops obviously quite an expensive option so i'll have to think long and hard before i consider it

Photoshop is well worth the expense, takes a lot of practise but again well worth the results. Top tip before you start, search for some very basic tutorials for what each different tool does (youtube?). The rest is just practice!

You can download the photoshop 30 day trial version from the Adobe site here http://www.adobe.com/downloads/
