Default Dreamweaver / SEO question

be patient with me - as you probably know I'm used to using frontpage and this is my first try at dreamweaver!! my website is mainly images and I can't see how I can optimize this? in frontpage in the properties of each page there was a bit to put all your tags / keywords etc.. but I don't see this on Dreamweaver - how can I do this??

Thanks!

It is in an options slider found in the bottom - if you click on the image and click properties it will slide up...

The only way to optimise images is to make them clickable links. Alt text attribute is ignored if the image is not clickable.

That said, you must NEVER spam the alt image att. that will do more harm than good. You say 'mostly images' so that indicates there is some text. use it wisely.

I never knew that! Is that true of all search engine spiders?
Sorry if this is taking this slightly off topic...

(Still good practice to give your images descriptive ALT tags for accessibility reasons however)

All images need to be given ALT tags even if the alt text is just alt=""

If not then it doesnt compy with W3C standards - cant remember which one though...

Seeing as Google is the SE that places the most weight on links, it is only for Google I was talking about. My 9 year old daughter can get a site to first page on Yahoo, and her doll Lizzy can get one to rank page 1 on MSn, such is the complexity of their algorithms

For Google, the alt image attribute text is largely ignored (unless there is no other text on the page). HOWEVER, if the image is a link, then the alt text att becomes the anchor text of that link

But if you are looking for the meta editor onin dreamweaver, the title is at the top of the page you have open. To the left you will seea drop down menu that defaults to 'common' play around with this, some of it is uin the html area I believe.

Yes I knew that one thanks, just wasn't aware that Google ignored ALT tags altogether unless they're linked images, in which case as OWG said they become the anchor text for the link

Just an add onto what OWG said.

When you upload an image, if it's a picture of blue baby shoes, rather than having 0909090434.jpg, rename the image to blue-baby-shoes.jpg.
