Sorry, don't rally know what you mean by software, but it is VBScript using ADO.
I then simply hand code everthing using notepad.
OK, that's good. It just sounded from what you said that you "bought" your main directory" that this directory package which you have then adapted to suit your needs. I wondered what it was that you bought.
What about using Joomla with the Mosets Tree component? I've used it before on a directory and it worked out fine. If you decide to use Joomla there are a number of other directory/classifieds components available, but I've only used Mosets so I can't vouch for them.

Thanks for the info on that Dave - looks very interesting. One question... you mentioned on another thread that you have recently completed a directory site using WordPress. What made you choose WordPress to do the job rather than Joomla and this plugin?

Another question Dave - I have read some reviews which say the components are great but the support by the developer poor. What was your experience of them?
1. I decided to use WordPress because (a) I love WordPress, and (b) because a lot of bloggers spend a lot of time bragging about how many possibilities WordPress has, but they never actually seem to do anything with it. So I decided (with a bit of help) to push the software to its limits.
2. I've also read about Mosets lack of support lately. I'll be honest, I haven't used it for about 2 years, and haven't tried it on Joomla 1.5. But there are alternative Directory components available. Take a look at these.
As an aside, I'm loving my WordPress directory. It only launched yesterday (with only 2 members so far), but I've bolted on a blog with one-click and have plans to add a BBPress forum soon. Development was also really quick; it took 3 days to build. In the hands of a decent programmer, you can make it do anything.

The components just work - in my experience - and the developer always answered my questions.
Thank's for that. I like the comprehensive search features it seems to provide rather than being bound by browsing categories.
This can only really be achieved if you have a large database of entries.
In my opinion there is nothing worse than a search function that returns
"sorry none listed" or words to that effect.
