Dynamic content on my site

I am currently in the process of creating a new website for all my 'Green' products.

I am looking for a way of having all my products (title, description, category, price, image) in some sort of database file and when the page loads it will display all the products for that particular query.

Can anyone suggest the best way of going about this?

What you are describing is basically a CMS or Content management system, but it also a basic ecommerce script. Look at Phils script (www.openmindcommerce.com) - has it all built in!

Thanks Mike, i'll take a look. I'm ok with HTML side of thing but i've never delved into the ecommerce and dynamic side of things

In which case Id definitely look into a all in one solution - have a look at the demos.

As he mentioned, OMC has done all the hard work for you by working with the databases and store structure. If you're comfortable with HTML and CSS then there isn't a lot more for you to do apart from upload your products.

I've just dowloaded a few of the different packages available (magneto, osCommerce) and will have a play with them today. to see how i get on.

My HTML/CSS skill are not too bad so hopefully i won't have any problem

Most advanced ecommerce systems (advanced rather than just shopping cart systems) provide this functionality, in fact I think it would be difficult to find an advanced ecommerce system that didn't provide this.

If the particular query is just based on the generic fields like (title, description, category, price) then again most advanced ecommerce systems can cater for this. If however you want to query extra category specific fields, e.g. search computer workstation desks by width and depth, then that is where most off-the-shelf ecommerce systems have issues, and that is where you have to think of a more custom (bespoke or semi-bespoke) solution.

Have you thought about using something like Shopify? This is a really to use system especially if you don't have a lot of knowledge on the development side of things, but want something easy and professional quickly.

I recomend it all the time.
