    Default Starting a printing Business

    Hi, All.

Just found this site its great and am pleased to be apart.

I am currently thinking of starting a small printing business offering Flyers, Posters business cards Letter heads and Canvas Arts.

I am currently looking at a few Wide format printers so i have that covered but i am unsure what equipment i need to produce the Flyers and Buiness cards. I really need some help.

This is still early stage so i would also like some advice as to weather i should go ahead with this or if the market has gone now for new printing companies.

Thank you all in advance and cant wait for your replies.

I think you'd need a huge marketing budget to compete but good luck.

Personally I would avoid the print industry like the plague unless its something totally different or quirky that youre offering as the amount of people I see re training from this area is unbelievable. I like the idea of the canvas, I know someone locally that prints any picture onto a canvas so you can hang it, it looks fab and is different + he's the only person that I know who doe's this locally. Maybe look into this side a bit more?

Kenny that was a good suggestion.

Perri1 this may be what you want, but unless you can offer something more bigger companies don't you will struggle in this area. As Kenny said, look into that side a bit more

I agree especially with people like printcarrier printing for peanuts, I like the canvas idea though it may be considered a bit of a luxery item.

if your hearts in it , then ignore the above and rely on your ability to sell the product,
Initially look at your local businesses and approach them and be straight to the point and ask what there paying, then look to outsource the print and beat that price, work on minimal margins to get the client base then you can start building, if we all started thinking no there too much competition then we would all be out of business i work in one of the worlds most competitive industries but that doesnt stop me from getting out there and selling what we do yes you need a strong backbone but hey nothing is easy nowadays if you believe you have something to offer a company then dont hesitate in letting them know.

Hello, Looking at it from two sides of the coin we have our own production facilities and we outsource the larger format materials.

There is enough Printing work still out there for all, but we have found that we have to work harder at getting it - going that extra mile. setting artwork etc to win the jobs.

Speaking to my peers on a daily basis some are doing well and some are very quiet. Thank goodness we are one of the 'doing well's'.

It is in the way you market yourself and service seems to win the work more often than not.
