I have my own views as to what is good and bad on a website BUT there are also key principles to be observed.

In this day and age of the enlightened visitors and the widening spectrum of viewers, we have to consider usability and acccessibility.

Too many webmasters tend to become artistic rather than practical.

For my two cents, your website content and design need to match your marketplace and site objectives whilst remaining user friendly and coded to meet accessibility standards.

    I could go on...but I won't.

    Website maintenance.. Website updates everyday!

It really depends on the nature of your business. I think th emost important thing is to make your site user friendly and make sure it tells people what you do! I pretty much live ont eh internet going from one website to another researching... and I hate coming across companies that have these elaborate websites and yet I STILL don't know what they do or sell! Its silly! make sure your message is clear whatever!

    "What makes a good website?"

Obviously traffic is of great importance. Apart from that I'd say:
    -User friendly
    -Good design
    -Good navigation
    -has a WOW factor

I'm new to this forum and also a web designer so here's my opinion for what it's worth.

A website should reflect its subject and be geared towards it's audience. This means that you cannot generalise on rules about colour and flash etc. What is right for one website maybe totally wrong for another.

So - if it's an online shop selling say bedding - the site would need to be simple, easy to navigate, have great product pictures and descriptions and be easy to buy from.

If the site is aimed at children for example then lots of colours and flash might be ideal.

Understanding the clients business and what they want from a website is the key to giving them the best advice and best website. Getting it found on the search engines is also very important.
