    Default Oooooo SOS! Excel help!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I think you get the general idea lol!!!

I'm absolutely fuming...I spent 6 hours the other day entering prices into a spreasheet only to find that the bloomin thing hadn't saved the data despite me clicking 'save' at every opportunity sooooooo, I spent another 6 hours yesterday re-inputting all the data and checked several times that the data had been saved (which it had). This morning I boot my PC up and go merrily back to the spreadsheet to add more data and lo and behold....the F'in thing hasn't saved!!! What's going on here? Any ideas anyone? This is really beginning to pee me off...12 hours work and nothing to show for it! The data seems to save okay until I switch the computer off and then back on again. I'm confused and need help....are there any psychiatrists on the forum.

Just wondering if you clicked 'save as' or just the save icon because then you could have saved it but it's not saved to your usual spot, so you are looking in the wrong place If you follow, lol

I am sure someone techie will have a more helpful answer soon though!

Yes, I've tried both Sarah...the original file was called 'flyer website prices'. The alterations I made I thought I'd saved as 'flyer website prices revised' meaning there'd then be 2 files, the original and the new one...but I can't find the revised file anywhere despite searching the whole damn computer for it and that's when I realised that the data hadn't saved. I tried the other way yesterday and just hitting the save button and therefore writing over the original data but it still hasn't saved...I'm really at a loss to explain this one, never had trouble like this before...the saga continues and also means I can't get on with things until all this is sorted out and I'm getting pressured to hell by my web designer to have it ready....I'm rapidly losing the will to live . Thanks for the suggestion though Sarah, anything is worth a shot at this stage!!!

Nope, not had that, I only get that when I click 'save as'! If I just click 'save' then that doesn't appear anyway and just writes over the old data in the file. I have re-entered the data, saved it, closed down Excel and reopened it and all is fine and the new data is there and saved- the problem seems to be when I switch the PC off and then back on again- the new data isn't in the file...like I said, this one's got me really confused and I can't for the life of me think what it might be!

    PANIC OVER!!!!

Someone has just pointed out that amongst the disarray of files in my documents it would appear that someone has created a zip file of the same name so there are two folders by the same name- one a normal folder and the other a zip file. It seems that I saved the data in the zip file instead of the normal file and all the new data is there. THANK F*CK FOR THAT!!! And thanks for trying to help guys, it seems I'm having one of my blonde days lol!

And to think you can vote too

Seriously, in excel check that you have auto save switched on...

THIS IS FOR RECOVERY OF THINGS GO WRONG. IT IS NOT A REPLACEMENT TO SAVING NORMALLY

    Open excel

Click on the office logo (top right)

Click excel options (bottom right of the box that just opened)

Click on SAVE (4th one down on the left)

Check SAVE AUTORECOVER and set it to 5,10,15 mins (whatever you want)

That means that if owt goes wrong, your file is saved automatically.

Pair this up with saving little and often and you should be coolio to go.
