Default Setting up a self-hosted blog

Yesterday my blog was deactivated by Wordpress for reasons known only to themselves. I have managed to export all content but don't know where to go next. I have been advised to set up a self-hosted blog but can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks in advance,

    Helen

Los is the WP bloke from what I can see.

I've just put in a WP Blog. I recommend using a pro to do it. They can really make it work better than DIY.

You can chuck up a WP blog quite quikc, just find yourself a host, get an account set up, then set up WP if you wanna DIY, or pay someone to sort it out for you. Then you cna add back in your pages, content, etc. Is that what you mean?

Yes Indizine that's it, I think I need to buy a domain name and get hosting first though?

There are web hosting companies that offer "1-click" blog setups.

I noticed such a facility when I recently worked with a client whose site was hosted with 1&1 (a respectable host, in my opinion), but I'm sure that other hosts would offer the same feature.

I'd speculate that the solution is a little less-flexible than rolling your own (Only a guess), but it might be worth a look if you want to get going with minimal fuss.

    I am new to blogs.

From what I've seen of those that are successful, there are factors to consider over and above simply host + installation.

I've seen some insanely successful blogs now and find the little differences interesting between those that are successful and those that are lost. Again everything is of course marketing.

Loads of blogs out there (62 million WP sites and rising).

One click installs are great BUT ensure you maintain functionality and control over the core files.

Yeah, I found those self installs a faff with something I had to do afterwards (cant recall what it was now though).

One solution is to use WordPress for conventional sites, but deblog the blog-type items if you don't use them.

In other words, get rid of posts, if you're not going to use them, and all the date and signature stuff.

Trimmed down, a simple WordPress theme, with pages (not posts) can be recognised by search engines within days. If you take a bit of care with SEO and submission, the results can be impressive. (I'm not flogging anything BTW - just a serious WP fan).
